Tangent Tuesday

Back in my college radio days there would always inevitably be a segment called Tangent Radio.  It'd be completely unplanned but usually occurred as one DJ came in and the other left, we'd have a brief moment where we talked on air with each other.  Some of these times things would go off the rails.

The perfect example involved; Jim think Tarintino dressing like a punk rocker his favorite band was Aqua and he wanted to work for NPR, Marc a ren-fair swordsmen who at the time was ranked 5th? in the country and a man I almost killed (with a sword), and Billy the guy who was actually trainning all of us.  This particular example started when someone through out the question What's your favorite chick flick that you own?  My answer stirred up a bet of controversy and debate about what constitutes a chick flick my answer was The Princess Bride.

Yup not a chick flick...

I believe the debate lasted over two hours.  Perhaps the merits and the reason my answer still applies will be discussed at a later date.

Tangent Tuesday

So I realized that XMen comes out on Friday and I have to work all weekend... Wait it comes out Thursday? Every movie for what seems like at least 6 months now has come out Thursday with a showing at 7 and at 10.  What's going on did I miss something on my calendar that explains how midnight isn't when days change anymore?

Now I work Thursday but I'd be off in time for a Midnight showing, you know which makes it actually Friday, the day when the movie is actually supposed to be released.

But that's not the only reason the Thursday Friday thing has me upset.  When you had to go at Midnight you and a group of friends would be dedicated to that movie.  You knew you'd be up till at least 2 am you were going to go see a film with only the most dedicated people, the crazies dressing up as their favorite characters, the nerd who knew everything about the film extended universe and all the people behind the scenes all the way down to the assistant to mr....  It was more than just going out and watching a movie it was an event.

Now they debut the movie at 7, they show it in 5-10 theaters, you get the children (one that inevitably cries during the quietest and most crucial scene), the old folks that went to see something else but upon arrival found out the only thing that was showing was a movie they had no clue about and so the huhrumph everything that happens, or the bros that only showed up in hopes of making fun of the dedicated fan base.   Why?  So we can get an extra couple million to claim for opening weekend? (If we all just stuck to midnight everyones numbers would reflect that not just yours) So we can claim to break records? (we all know that adjusting for inflation,  or actual asses in seats some of the records haven't been touched)  And what are we sacraficing?
